Trauma causes spinal damage and nerve pathology:

Spinal stiffness and the symptoms it causes is the result of trauma that damages the spine. There are two types of trauma, the sudden obvious falls and accidents as well as the more subtle gradual traumas to the spine caused by poor posture and other unhealthy body use habits. When unresolved spinal damage is left untreated, the diminished spinal nerve health eventually leads to the experience of symptoms.
How does chiropractic care help?

Quite simply, my care replaces motion and symmetry within the spinal structure. The restoration of normal spinal movement and stability promotes healing within your body in a number of ways:

  • The resumption of the healthy flow of nutrients and oxygen restores spinal nerve health
  • Pain originating from spinal damage often completely resolves
  • Improve spinal motion increases the flow of accurate body position information to the brain. This correct information improves the brain’s ability to activate proper stability within previously damaged areas of spine. Increased spinal stabilization accelerates healing.
  • As the brain’s capacity to stabilize the spine improves, it directs spasmed muscles that were being recruited for emergency stabilization to relax back to their normal state of ease.
  • Often patients will experience global improvements in mind and body neural network function such as improved balance, reduced stress, deeper sleep and increased energy.

Spinal nerve pathology is a little known significant health concern:

Many people associate chiropractic with reducing back and neck pain by “putting the bones back in place.”  This is an incomplete picture of what is actually occurring during treatment. As we get older the spine tends to get tighter. In the areas where the spine is stiff the blood supply to the spinal nerves is often reduced. This reduces the normal flow of food and oxygen to the spinal nerves in the area where spinal motion is limited.
Most people have no idea that my care assists your body to heal spinal nerve pathology. Research by Gunn MD has helped the medical community realize that the spinal nerves do not remain 100 percent healthy throughout life. He explains that a patient’s symptoms are often the direct result of spinal nerve pathology. Like any other cells, oxygen and nutrient starved nerve cells can become weak. If the spinal damage is severe, the spinal nerves in the area of significantly reduced oxygen and nutrients supplies can eventually die. For this reason, I am required to screen you for significant losses in function. These losses of normal body functions include loss of bowel or bladder sphincter control, sexual function, leg motor skills, as well as certain forms of numbness which are clinical markers of nerve death. All of these illness outcomes are the result of various potential degrees of spinal nerve pathology. The pain and muscle spasm resulting from mild to moderate spinal nerve pathology where there are no extreme losses of body functional often responds well to chiropractic care.
